Ghost Cult Magazine Review Roundup – April ’25

Hello again, here is a short and sweet round up of the reviews I have done for Ghost Cult Magazine so far this year. Click the links to read more.

The Night Flight Orchestra – Give Us The Moon

The aviation obsessed octet’s seventh album Give Us The Moon is a masterful collection of ’70s and ’80s influenced rock with plenty of cheese, big guitar and synth melodies and absolutely huge choruses. ‘Shooting Velvet’ and ‘Miraculous’ are splendid.

Avantasia – Here Be Dragons

Yet more cheese, but Tobias Sammet’s Avantasia delivers it with Jim Steinman levels of melodrama and earth shattering bombast. Here Be Dragons is Meatloaf Metal at its most unsubtle, the ambitious ‘Avalon’ and the emphatic ‘Creepshow’ showcase this.

The Darkness – Dreams On Toast

Lowestofts finest are back with Dreams On Toast, an assured, surprisingly varied and concise 34 minutes of Hard Rock and their best offering in ages. The self deprecating anthem ‘Walking Through Fire’ is a good starting point.
